Litigation, Land Use Environmental, Appellate, Administrative Law
“I love being my clients’ lawyer, guide, and trusted advisor whenever they’re faced with a personal or business challenge posed by the legal system or need help navigating through it.”
Problem-solving is the core of Matthew’s legal methodology. He endeavors to learn as much as possible about his clients, their businesses, and their legal issues. This allows Matthew to propose and execute non-obvious solutions to client legal problems. Whether he assists at preliminary stages (e.g., in pre-filing negotiations or in obtaining permits and authorizations) or at a later stage (e.g., after a lawsuit has been filed or an agency has imposed a penalty), his approach ensures clients achieve results tailored to their unique needs. Additionally, his legal practice helps avoid potential problems at the outset and provides realistic evaluations of client options when disputes arise.
Matthew represents clients at all stages of civil litigation and in administrative proceedings, including providing appellate services in both areas. He has extensive experience practicing in Oregon’s state and federal courts, serving as the second chair in an eight-day white-collar case trial that successfully ended in his client’s acquittal.
A self-described “true legal nerd,” Matthew’s passion centers on ways to improve his practice while providing value to his clients. He advocates efficiency by using the latest litigation technology and predictive coding tools to minimize costs while protecting clients’ interests. He actively stays current on recent proceedings and decisions related to his practice. He enjoys reading about legal history and gets his greatest pleasure from crafting arguments and legal writing.
While earning his J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School (Cum Laude, 2012), Matthew served as an extern for two United States District Judges for the District of Oregon. After graduating from law school, he clerked for United States District Judge Michael Simon in the District of Oregon.
When he’s away from the office, Matthew likes to unwind by cooking, skiing, and reading.
